Kentucky

Kentucky is one of the prettirst states we've seen...save Utah & California. We crossed the Ohio River into Louisville and spent the day at the Louisville Slugger museum where baseball bats are made, historic Louisville, and Churchhill Downs where Kentucky Derby is run.

Tomorrow we head home to North Carolina. We've been on the road for 25 days and visited 19 states:  NC, TN, AR, OK, TX, NM, AZ, CA, NV, UT, CO, WY, SD, IA, NE, MO, IL, IN & KY.

Mostly agriculture from Missouri thru Illinois to Indiana...corn, corn, and more corn. We went thru St. Louis, MO., saw the arch and crossed back over the Mississippi via the MLK bridge. We are on the downside, coming on home...

Big travel day today...began in SD, followed the Missouri River south in Iowa. Crossed over the river to Nebraska and had lunch in Old Market Omaha...with brick streets and great boutique shopping...and lunch at Billy Frogg's Pub for a delicious burger. Ended up in Kansas City, MO passing the undefeated KC Chiefs stadium.

South Dakota to Sioux Falls

Spent the morning at Wall Drug in Wall, SD. The story is that the Wall family who owned Wall Drug was going bust and decided to advertise on the highway that they offered free ice water. It turned their business around and it is now a small village of shops and still owned by the same family.

The rest of South Dakota was farmlands and livestock. We did pass over the Missouri River. Staying in Sioux Falls, SD. Long day today...

Utah

We've had quite a day...hundreds and hundreds of miles of red rock formations, mesas, buttes, canyons, all more than you can wrap your mind around. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere with the most unbelievable rock formations and colors you ever experienced (coming from the east). Some mesas appear carved from the earth's sandstone and buttes with colors from cream and pink to deep rosy red. It was truely magnificent. Bob said he knew about Utah but never imagined such beauty...its takes your breath away.

Mojave Desert, California Growers & Oil!

Driving through Central California was exciting: oil rigs pumping away, windmills creating energy, vineyards growing grapes for wine, and farms growing...roses, dates, pistascios, almonds, oranges, sod, honey bees, cotton (yes, cotton), corn, and the Borax mine on 20 Mule Team Rd., and finally the Mojave Desert! Quite a trip...

California or Bust!

Traveled into California from Arizona...passed over the Colorado River and was welcomed into California. Many, many mountains. We saw hundreds of windmills again creating energy, we are very impressed.
